Thinking outside the box

When senior Matt Hoogestraat sat beneath the elegant arches and high ceilings of Seattle’s Sanctuary Ballroom, he was nervous. It was here, in the country’s oldest byzantine-style building, he’d find out whether or not Western’s senior industrial design class had won the Gray Magazine award for best student design.

Recent Western graduate prepares for her first season as a Sea Gal

Karley Kearney, 22, said she knew she wanted to audition for the Sea Gals after she attended her first Seahawks game with her dad and found herself watching the cheerleaders more than the game. She graduated from Western in spring 2017 with a degree in communication studies and is now an active member of the Sea Gals while working part time.

'People of the Sea and Cedar'

The Whatcom Museum is bringing the history and culture of the Pacific Northwest to life with the opening of its new exhibit "People of the Sea and Cedar." The exhibit opened on July 15 and is located in the Lightcatcher Building of the Whatcom Museum.
